Today’s topic is your roof. If you are like most people, it isn’t something you give much thought to as long as it is doing its job and you are dry inside. Your roof is one of the most important elements of your entire home. It does need your attention, as it will wear out and it can be damaged by storms that are going through Middle Tennessee with ever more frequency. We at Hall Construction have chosen to partner with Owens Corning as one of this area’s Preferred Contractors.
Your roof is a system of carefully integrated components that when installed properly can last for many years. The rafters or trusses are the framework that holds it up. They are covered by decking that gives an even surface for the roofing underlayment that is covered by the roofing material. Asphalt shingles and metal being the 2 most commonly seen around here. Other important elements of your roof are flashing to keep water from gaining entry at wall junctions and chimneys and ventilation that allows your roof to breathe. Every one of these elements is important and we will get into each in greater detail in subsequent posts.
